No, Senator McCain. It's not good enough for the American people. We should all be more defensive about name calling and bad behavior, especially in a public forum. I am ashamed of you.
McCain was being questioned about the election in a public forum and a woman asked what they would have to do to beat the B.... He kind of laughed and went on to say that he respected Mrs. C and answered the question. The next day when asked about it the journalist questioning him asked if he didn't owe an apology for not confronting the woman on her name calling. He said that he thought the American people would find his answer to the lady good enough. In other words he would not apologize for his handling of the comment. In a public forum I believe that we owe the respect to fellow human beings to ask that people not name call. How would he like being referred to in public as a P...? I would find that equally rude.
I'm "bad to" call names myself, as we say in southern Indiana. I need work on that. People on TV such as Ann Coulter, who called John Edwards a "faggot," do nothing to raise the level of public discourse. I ought to go back through all of my posts on my blogs and amend them to remove all name-calling. Labels don't explain anything, but I suppose understanding isn't really the goal when epithets are flung.
I am a single again woman after 33 years of marriage with 3 wonderful and successful children who are the very air that I breathe. My children live in various parts of the United States so our visits are not as frequent as we would like but modern communications keep us close in heart and spirit. I am a practicing Christian in the Episcopal church. I sing in the choir, play the organ and piano when needed and am active in a weekday healing eucharist and a Bible study. I live in a mobile home retirement community and enjoy gardening my tiny plot--flowers and tropical plants. I enjoy a variety of reading both fiction and non fiction, movies and spending time with friends.
