BLOGGER'S BLOCK

I think I have been suffering from writer's block or perhaps simply boredom--could that be? I think some of my blogging buddies are too because posts have become few lately. So let us get with it bloggers and circulate our stories again.

Occasionally I make a trip to Blockbuster Video, just down the street from where I live, and take advantage of a sale that they have--fairly recent videos priced at 4/$20 and some for 3.99 each. Now I regard that as a deal. My recent trip netted a few things, one of which is a Hugh Grant film that I had not seen and which I think probably didn't do so well at the box office. The thing that was so fun about this movie is that it is a satire on both Bush and the TV show American Idol--neither of which I care for. Suffice it to say I really got a kick out of the humor in this film. So if you hate reality shows as I do and think Bush is an idiot then you will love this movie. Watch it with someone who thinks like you do and you will get double the laughs.

I bought a new quilt for my bed this week, not because I needed it but because I wanted something different to look at that is pretty. It has a pink background with bright pink flowers on it. It is just perfect with everything else that I have so it brings cheer to me after the winter months--yes we have winter in Florida too.

I can't remember if I wrote about it or not, but I gave up chocolate for lent. I love almost anything chocolate so I didn't know how I would do. The way my church practices lent is that when you are fasting Sunday is a fast free day. I was afraid that one day of chocolate would call for another so I have practiced my fast on Sundays as well. This past Sunday I accidentally grabbed a chocolate Slim Fast from the fridge, popped the top and took a slug before I realized that it was fudgy chocolate. Rather than waste it I drank on but it didn't bother me. Actually I was on a 3 day liquid fast anyway so I figured that fast would cancel out the chocolate. I've been amazed that I haven't had cravings. A fellow choir mate gave up Coke for lent and I think that would have been harder. Maybe next year I will try that.

I noticed recently that I have a colony of bees that have set up housekeeping under my home. Tonight when I get home from choir I am going to bomb them and hope that eradicates them. I think they came to my place when my neighbor sprayed for bees. I'm going to send them back home or maybe to heaven if the bomb really works. I decided to wait until after dark so there will be less danger of anybody getting stung except me. I'll have to run for the door really fast.

My cousin Teresa and husband David from Washington IN visited mother and me this week one afternoon and evening. It was a short but very sweet visit and we hope for a longer one next time. They were in Kissimmee with friends so didn't have a lot of time to spare.

Our weather is very nice now but it is very dry and we are having lots of forest and brush fires. That usually happens here before the rainy season begins. The dryness makes the temperature more tolerable but increases the danger of fire and sometimes limits water usage.

Okay, bunny rabbits, I got to go.

END OF A GOOD WEEK

Saturday night, the end of a good week for me. I celebrated my birthday up through yesterday with meals, movies, cards, presents and other good things. I have to quit thinking about my age though for that is getting depressing. Two things that I received that were totally yummy were cookies made by my sister-in-law and some wonderful tea from my daughter-out-law. The cookies are all eaten and the tea is nearly gone. I decided not to hold back.

Yesterday I saw "Wild Hogs," a highly entertaining movie about the right of passage for 4 middle aged men. They make a cross country trip on their bikes and encounter all kinds of funny situations. If you need a good laugh then see this movie.

Today I took my mom and we saw "Amazing Grace." It is a political movie about the abolishment of slavery in England during which time the hymn "Amazing Grace" was written by John Newton. It was a touching movie with a thrilling final scene in front of Westminster Abbey. I hope you all will make and effort to see it.

I started a 5 week Lenten study this week on the subject of forgiveness. It is a group of 11 people from my church, a nice cross section, who signed up for this class. I was amazed with how the group clicked so immediately and what good discussion we had. I look forward to the next session.

It is cool and rainy here tonight. We seldom have cool rain. Often when you step out into the rain here the water feels warm so tonight is unusual. Should make for good sleeping.

I hope all of you have had a wonderful week and will have pleasant dreams tonight. Think I'll go make another pot of tea.
